Back up and running.

They’re famous last words, of course, but I think I’ve finally wrestled Wordpress 2.5 to the ground and have it largely working. Such is the curse of the early adopter.
There’s now a tag cloud in the sidebar that I’m playing with- the fonts are really messed up, and the red is awful, but I haven’t had time to research where I can change it, but I think that’s the biggest issue left.
There were some good things- I hadn’t realized that a misplaced quotation mark had busted my Pratchett quotes and despite there being 70+ in there, it was only showing about a dozen. Also, I was able to fix the tags, which have been an issue.
If you’re trying to install and are having problems, here’s a quick list of some of the resources that helped me:
- Site not displaying
- Nothing worked. Finally deleted all but the database, downloaded a new copy of 2.5 and reinstalled. After that, site looked fine for a user, but:
- Cannot sign in- no logins recognized/accepted- cookie permissions allowed but not being placed:
- Cleared cache
- Uploaded 2nd clean copy of Wordpress into a new directory (including a new database)
- edited index.php to remove trailing spaces
- manually moved only required db tables over
- Uploaded and tested one widget/plugin at a time
- edited to point to new files (I left the old copy of wordpress in place, becuase the static links are different, but if someone lands on a page and wants to navigate elsewhere, they’re transferred to the new files).
I could go into the seemingly hundreds of things I tried that didn’t work, but…ug. Who’s got the heart for that? I hope I’m really REALLY happy with the new software because I don’t think I can ever stand to upgrade again.

PS- Famous last words indeed- when I previewed it I saw that the unordered lists don’t seem to be working.
