Yesterday I opened my cabinet and realized Old Mother Hubbard had nothing on me. I haven’t been shopping in weeks, and it was long past due. Alison was rounded up and she gleefully got in the car, ready to spend my money.
Halfway to the grocery store I told her that although I know we’re out [...]

A little poll…

Okay, so no one should be terribly surprised that I’m looking around at local bird breeders. There’s this one chick (har har) who was highly recommended by my vet but… frankly, I just don’t get the warm and fuzzies from her.
So I googled her to see if I could find more info and came across [...]

Mardi Gras Rose

So here we are again, the roses are blooming and I’m wondering how long it’ll last. Charlie keeps reminding me that our climate is just not kind to roses, but I’m gonna keep trying a little while longer. After all, banging my head on the wall is one of my favorite activities.
Anyway, here’s a new [...]

Last week I received the fantastic news that great friends from France are coming to stay over the summer, and we swung into high-planning mode.

Birds found…

I saw this CNN headline and knew it was a grey:
Lost parrot gives vet his name and address
The poor boy got lost in Tokyo and was first taken to the police station, but I guess he didn’t want to be a stool pigeon (har har), so he wouldn’t talk to the cops. A few days [...]

And birds lost…

A few days ago I put up youtube videos of the amazing Tui, and I’ve since found out she’s lost, having been caught in a crosswind and swept away when Andrew began flight training her.
He told me he has a substantial reward offered and is relentlessly walking the neighborhood and getting as [...]

Hour gongs were being struck all across the city and night-watchmen were proclaiming that it was indeed midnight and also that, in the face of all the evidence, all was well. Many of them got as far as the end of the sentence before being mugged.

Once a month we, the community, meet [...]

So I received notice that there was something new up on a particular YouTube channel. That led me to look at my other subscriptions, one of which is to Andrew & Tui.
Andrew is a Kiwi living in Kansas and Tui is the African Grey he’s trained since she was hatched. She clearly has his [...]

Calla Lilies

I hadn’t had lilies before and didn’t realize that they’re sort of like poinsettias. What looks like blooms are actually new leaves coming in. They begin rolled up into a tube (in this case the colors remind me of a peach), and slowly unravel and darken until it becomes another leaf.
