About

Way Down Yonder in New Orleans

Way down yonder in New Orleans
In the land of the dreamy dreams
There’s a garden of Eden that’s what I mean
Creole babies with flashing eyes
Softly whispering with the tender sighs
Stop, won’t you give your lady fair
A little smile
Yeah, stop, you bet your life you’ll linger there
A little while
Well there is heaven right here
on earth with those beautiful queens
Way down yonder in New Orleans

So this is why I have such a long damn blog name: Louis Prima, crooning that this was where I really wanted to be.

And you know, he was right. Mostly, he was right. Almost always, in fact.

But there are times, every so often, when those dreams turn dark. Or get a little off color. Or I have something to say about my teenage daughter – tho frankly, I’d like to keep her away from some New Orleans ‘dreams’ as long as possible.

Those are the times I come here. For straight-up info about New Orleans’ sights and sounds, check out (link) Noteworthy in NOLA, which does more cheerleading- I still love the city, and want to promote her where I can.

But sometimes I wanna talk about other stuff, or whine, or whatever. So here we are.

Originally from the Northeast, I fell in love with this fantastically bizarre place in 1993, eventually researching and writing about its history, finally leaving a boring life of stability in 2002 to live here full time. Previously a responsible adult working in finance and computer programing, now I write, take photos, gambol in the garden, and freelance as a civic booster.

It's a pretty amazing tradeoff and I hope you decide to hang out with all of us for a while.
