Snowball the amazing Rock-a-too

I happened upon a Snowball the cockatoo video a while ago and just fell out.

Anyway, if you haven’t heard about him, he was left at a bird rescue like a foundling, with a note and a CD- and the rest, as they say, is history.

In case you haven’t seen him, here’s one of the videos- not the Backstreet Boys one, which is the one that’s everywhere, but a second one, with Huey Lewis. It’s not long, but he really gets into it about halfway through:

Video was removed for terms of service violation. wtf? Huey’s in such demand he had to cease and desist a parrot?

Well, here’s Queen’s Another One Bites the Dust:

I went to their website, and wrote to Irene, who runs the sanctuary out of her home. I thought I’d donate this stand I bought for the ingrate Zulu.

I mean, really. Go check it out- it’s really cool! Doesn’t it look like fun? I’d want to play on it if I were him. But for some reason it terrifies him, and so I’m sending it off to them along with a few other items that the picky boy has rejected.

I can’t imagine doing what they do. It’d break my heart. First they’d arrive, miserable, scared, maybe sick, and I’d get attached.

When I was a teen the ASPCA tacked a note on the school bulletin board, seeking volunteers. I got home, super excited and told my mother how I was going to spend my Saturdays working with the animals there, isn’t that great?

I don’t think I ever saw my mother laugh so hard. Then she got ahold of herself and said, very very seriously: No.

At the time I thought she was the meanest, most terrible person on the face of the earth- how could she deny me when there were all those needy animals out there?!

Now I understand. She knew, beyond a shadow of a doubt, that either a) I would fall apart every time some animal was put to sleep or b) the population of the house would grow exponentially. Likely both.

Plus Irene is a fantastic lady- she’d even taken the time to try to help me with some…uh…behavioural issues. So please go Paypal Bird Lovers Only a buck or two. They certainly deserve it.
